The 128th Separate Mountain Assault Transcarpathian Brigade was founded on July 12, 1922, and has remained one of the most effective and capable units of the modern Ukrainian Armed Forces for over a century.
During the Russo-Ukrainian War, units of the 128th Brigade were among the first to deploy east in the spring of 2014, demonstrating their courage and professionalism in battles and combat missions.
At the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the 128th Brigade defended Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia sector and later took an active part in the liberation of the Kherson region. In 2023, the brigade’s combat units held the line in the Bakhmut and Zaporizhzhia sectors, where they also took part in a counteroffensive, achieving significant results. Today, the 128th Brigade continues to hold combat positions in the Zaporizhzhia sector.
The brigade is constantly adapting to the realities of modern warfare and helping shape the future of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Alongside its assault and support units, the brigade has a battalion of unmanned systems with extensive combat experience. Electronic reconnaissance and electronic warfare units work to protect soldiers on the battlefield. Brigade personnel undergo continuous training and professional development, both in Ukraine and in European countries, using modern weapons and military equipment.
The brigade’s core values include:
Multinationality: Ukrainians, Hungarians, Romanians, Slovaks, Poles, Roma, Georgians, and people of other nationalities serve in the brigade. For all of them, Ukraine is a common home they are defending.
Maintaining ties with civilians during wartime: The brigade operates in some of the most challenging sectors of the front and feels the warm support of the local population wherever it goes. This unity with the people gives the brigade additional strength to carry out its combat missions.
- Motivated, well-trained, and highly professional fighters: Our goal is to provide our motivated personnel with all the training and courses they need to enhance the brigade’s combat effectiveness.
