I grew up in a United States military family. My paternal grandfather served as a Marine Captain during World War II. My maternal grandfather was West Point graduate Major General Kenneth David Nichols who served as a senior officer in the Manhattan Project. My father served as a Captain in the United States Air Force.At age 18 I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and completed approximately 11 weeks of recruit training at Paris Island South Carolina. I suffered an injury shortly before graduation. After learning that I would have to restart recruit training rather than graduate with my platoon I accepted an entry level separation. I have regretted that decision throughout my adult life and it taught me to respond to adversity by pushing forward rather than quitting.I later successfully completed an intensive two month civilian wilderness survival program during winter conditions in Idaho. Training included hiking as much as 14 miles per day carrying a pack while operating on limited rations. I received training in wilderness shelter construction fire building using multiple methods including bow drill friction fire small game trapping and survival in cold weather conditions.The program concluded with a ten day solo wilderness survival phase. I constructed my own shelter and lived independently in winter conditions while gathering firewood maintaining fire obtaining food and meeting my daily survival requirements. The experience required endurance discipline self reliance resourcefulness and the ability to remain focused while isolated and under difficult physical conditions.I am currently 51 years old and maintain excellent physical conditioning. I have continued to challenge myself physically and mentally throughout my adult life. My professional career has required me to master complex information work under pressure solve problems quickly and adapt to changing circumstances.I understand that prior recruit training and civilian survival training are not substitutes for current military training or combat experience. I am prepared to learn follow orders work as part of a team and undergo whatever training and evaluation is required.My objective is to serve as a capable and dependable member of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and contribute wherever my abilities can be most useful.
