New Guideline Released

 

 

 

 

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has released a new guideline titled "Essential national provisions and international humanitarian law for foreigners in the Armed Forces of Ukraine". This guideline is aimed at helping both future and current foreign servicemen and women in navigating their roles within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.


 

The document offers practical information on various aspects of service, including foreigners' opportunities to join the AFU, their rights, duties, and the social guarantees they are entitled to as military personnel.

 

The information provided in the guideline may be a subject to rapid changes in the context of martial law. Therefore, it is strongly recommended for every foreigner to carefully review the relevant laws and regulations outlined in this guideline to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the information provided.

What is the International Legion?
The International Legions for Defence of Ukraine operates in the form of separate special purpose battalions directly subordinated to the Command of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The personnel of the International Legions for Defence of Ukraine are servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, perform the same duties and enjoy the same rights, including financial and social security, as other servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Citizens of other countries serve in the International Legions for Defence of Ukraine alongside Ukrainians.
In this case, foreigners can conclude the contract for military service in the International Legions for Defence of Ukraine for a period of 6 months.
Members of the International Legions for Defence of Ukraine participated in most of the key battles in repelling Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine and enjoy well-deserved military glory.

Before being deployed, the volunteers of the International Legions are selected and thoroughly trained by experienced instructors with extensive combat experience.

Candidate requirements

  • 18-60 years of age

    These are the legal age limits set by Ukrainian legislation

  • No chronic diseases

    All candidates need to pass an assessment by a medical commission

  • Physical fitness

    All candidates need to be physically capable to perform basic infantry tasks

  • Ability to legally enter Ukraine

    The Legion or the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not provide assistance with visas and travel arrangements

  • Military or relevant experience is an advantage

    Military experience is not required but would increase the chances of being accepted. Other relevant experiences might include law enforcement, paramilitary organizations, firefighting, etc.

  • Combat experience is an advantage

    Combat experience is not required but would increase the chances of being accepted. Combat experience might include paramilitary or militias.
